Reasi, January 11, 2026: In a swift and coordinated action against illegal timber smuggling, District Police Reasi, in collaboration with the Forest Department Range Katra, successfully intercepted and seized a consignment of illegally cut Khair wood during the intervening night of 10/01/2026 and 11/01/2026 in the Maghal area of Tehsil Katra.Acting on specific information received at Police Station Katra regarding the illicit cutting and transportation of Khair trees, a police team was immediately deputed to the spot. Upon reaching the location, the team recovered approximately 07 quintals of Khair wood billets, loaded in a Mahindra vehicle bearing registration number JK20B-1649, along with officials of the Forest Department, Range Katra.The vehicle was being driven by Madan Lal S/O Mani Ram R/O Kandyar, Tehsil Katra.During preliminary questioning, the driver failed to produce any valid transport permit and could not provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the possession and transportation of the Khair wood.Consequently, the accused, along with the seized vehicle and timber, was brought to the Police Station for further legal proceedings.The entire operation was carried out by 𝗦𝗛𝗢 𝗣/𝗦 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽. 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵 𝗥𝗮𝗼, 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗗𝗣𝗢 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗗𝗿. 𝗕𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺 𝗗𝘂𝗯𝗲𝘆, 𝗝𝗞𝗣𝗦 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗣 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝗵. 𝗩𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗻, 𝗝𝗞𝗣𝗦.𝗦𝗦𝗣 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗶 𝗦𝗵. 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘃𝗶𝗿 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗵, 𝗝𝗞𝗣𝗦 reiterated that District Police Reasi remains firmly committed to protecting forest resources and will continue to take strict action against those involved in illegal activities that harm the environment.
